AREA ROUNDUP: Lady Cru, Paw Paw boys suffer road losses

SPRING VALLEY — Emily Owens poured in 28 points, Anna Sypniewski scored 15 and Hannah Cowie added another point, but that was it for Marquette as the Lady Crusaders fell in overtime in nonconference girls basketball play Wednesday night to host St. Bede, 47-44.
Marquette (14-3) trailed 28-16 at halftime before rallying in the fourth quarter, but was outscored 10-7 in the extra period to see a five-game win streak halted.
Maggie Sons led the Lady Bruins (4-14) with 17 points.
Boys basketball
Hinckley-Big Rock 73, Paw Paw 54
At Hinckley, the visiting Bulldogs received seven 3-pointers from Michael Lampson and trailed only 38-32 at halftime, but ultimately fell to 3-12 on the season with the 19-point loss.
"It was a tale of two halves," said Paw Paw coach David Glenn. "Too much standing around flat-footed defensively in the second half."
Lampson finished with 21 points, Tim McNally scored 17, and Brandon Heiman put in 10 points.

The Fighting Irish (15-11 in duals) went unbeaten in a home quad, led by three-victory performances from Wilson Widman (three forfeits), Jacob Hampton (two pinfalls, forfeit), Colt Aldrich (two pins, forfeit), Mason Dooley (two pins, forfeit) and Levi Clark (two pins, forfeit).
Cody Carvell (pin, forfeit), Gavin Robertson (two pins), Nathan Elliott (two pins), Zane Comrie (pin, forfeit) and Jackson Beene (two pins) added two wins each for Seneca. Adding one win for SHS were Kyra Jenkins, Ben Virgo and Ricky Milliman.
Logan Petre, Keegan Jaros and Hunter McAlpine all scored pinfall wins for Marquette against Seneca.
Girls bowling
La Salle-Peru 2,880, Streator 2,059
At Super Bowl in Peru, the Lady Bowlin' Bulldogs were defeated despite a 526 series (186, 179, 161 games) from sophomore Kaylee Sroka. Hallie Ligori added a 406 for Streator.
DeKalb 2,887, Ottawa 2,338
At Dettore's Town Lanes, the host Lady Pirates fell in NIB 12 Conference action. Emma Lieser was the high roller with a 178-167-168 for a 513 series. Alex Merkerson marked a 157 game.

La Salle-Peru 3,511, Streator 3,081
At Super Bowl in Peru, the visiting Bowlin' Bulldogs fell to their former conference rival despite a strong 663 series (224, 219, 220 games) from senior Seth Kelly. Zack Grabowski added a 556 (209, 192 high games), with Dan Stout chiming in with a 211 game.

At Geneseo, the visiting Pirates wrapped up the NIB 12 season with a victory led by Josh Norsen's 625 series (233 high game) and Brandan Lerette's 610 (228). Bryant Morgan added a 247 game.

At Ottawa, Alex Graham-Harris was high for the Lady Vikings with a 368 series (156 high game).

At Geneseo, Anthony Walter's 545 series (214 high game) plus games of 200 from Vinnie Parise, 185 from Truman Lane and 199 courtesy of Bryan Gleason led the Corsairs to the win.
Freshman girls basketball
Streator 27, Seneca 26
In I-8 play, Ashlyn Rogers scored 12 points while Kristen Lane scored six and had 15 rebounds for the Lady Bullpups in the victory. Amber Vroman scored a dozen points for Seneca.
Freshman boys basketball
Burlington Central 46, Marquette 36
In nonconference play, Marquette's frosh (13-5) fell despite Bryant Schomas' 15 points and nine from Lucas Hoffman.
