To the Editor:
Our representative in Congress, Adam Kinzinger, recently had the courage to visit a Braidwood high school, even as he continues to avoid actual interactions with real voters. He won't do a real town hall and he's literally run away from constituents attempting to speak to him. So here is what I'd say to my representative:
Look at your constituents, Rep. Kinzinger. Do you see how deeply you've failed us? You have voted for legislation that hurts us, and even will kill some of us. You are irresponsibly increasing the deficit to give the already-rich more money and telling us it's a "middle-class tax cut."
You are making health care more expensive for everyone and burdening our hospitals with uninsured patients. You are turning the internet into a highway for the wealthy. Your party is undermining the independence of the judiciary and now of our law enforcement agencies. You are fiddling while our environment burns as you watch Trump dismantle the EPA.
You, sir, are no Christian, but a wolf in sheep's clothing. The constituents whom your party has deceived are slowly awakening and recognizing the false piety of the GOP. Your pious anti-abortion stance while you enact policy after policy that hurts children and puts more families into circumstances where they've lost access to birth control and can't afford another child ... GOP policies cause the abortion rates to rise.
Christians don't use racism and xenophobia to divide their nation so they can claim political power. Christians would strive to overcome these divisions. Christ came for the poor and powerless — you've stood for the wealthy and connected.
The synchophancy of GOP politicians to a would-be autocrat is disgusting and undignified. The loss of respect of our nation in the U.N. is due to Trump's inability to work with other nations in a mature and responsible way; which makes us unsafe as a nation. Are you going to cheer when Trump gets us into a war which a sober, stable leader could have avoided?
You are responsible for all of this.
