MARSEILLES — Doris L. Sparks, 89, of Marseilles, passed away Saturday, Dec. 16, at Aperion Care in Marseilles.
A celebration of life will be at a later date. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Marseilles. Seals-Campbell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Doris was born Sept. 21, 1928, to Chester and Laura (Brodbeck) Kendall. She graduated from Marseilles High School. On May 7, 1949, she married William Sparks, who preceded her in death earlier this year.
Doris was a longtime member of Marseilles United Methodist Church and was an active member of the United Methodist Women. She was always willing to provide food — whether it be for funeral dinners, friends in the nursing homes or families in need in the community. She volunteered at Rivershores Nursing Home for many years.
Bill and Doris enjoyed having their grandchildren spend time with them every summer. There were day trips, treats and always lots of crafts. The grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews, have many wonderful memories of their visits to Marseilles.
Doris is survived by one son, Steve (Patricia) Sparks, of Emden; one daughter, Martha (Paul) Davis, of Hedrick, Iowa; beloved grandchildren, Gregory Phillips, Geoffrey Phillips, Ginnifer Smith and Dustin Spray; her great-grandchildren were a delight to her, they are Douglas, Zachary, Danielle, Aubrey and Griffin Phillips and Addison Smith; and one sister, Linda (Tom) Weiss, of Ottawa.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one sister, Bernice Bevill.
Memorials may be made to the Marseilles United Methodist Church or the Marseilles Nursing Service.
