AREA ROUNDUP: Fighting Irish top Dwight, F-C falls to EP-G

SENECA — The Seneca Fighting Irish beat the Dwight Trojans 52-35 in a nonconference boys basketball game Tuesday night.
Seneca (5-3) led 17-4 after one quarter, 29-16 at the half and 41-19 through three periods.
Sam Grushkin scored 13 points to lead a balanced Fighting Irish offensive attack. Hunter Greve added 11 points. Owen Barnett and Erik Bendt contributed nine and eight points, respectively.
 
El Paso-Gridley 68, Flanagan-Cornell 49
At El Paso, Jeremy Durdan had 24 points and seven rebounds for the Falcons (4-4 overall, 1-3 Heart of Illinois Conference) during their HOIC loss to the Titans.
 
Girls basketball
Paw Paw 47, Henry-Senachwine 30
Brooke Heiman scored 15 points and dished out five assists to lead the Lady Bulldogs to the nonconference win over the Lady Mallards. LeeAnn Smith added eight points and grabbed seven rebounds. Jacey Smith contributed seven points.
 
Fieldcrest 60, Putnam County 55 (3 OT)
At Minonk, the Knights defeated the Lady Panthers in three overtimes in a nonconference contest.
Leah White scored 17 points to lead Fieldcrest. Madi Hock added 15 points. Lexi Jochums contributed 12 points.
 
Girls bowling
Ottawa 2,572, Hall 2,433
At Ladd, Emma Lieser rolled a 512 series — with a high game of 206 — to lead the Lady Pirates to the dual-meet win over the Lady Red Devils. Kaitlyn Gribbins had a 488 series.
 
Boys swimming
Sterling 99, LPOS 83
At Sterling, the La Salle-Peru/Ottawa/Streator co-op lost to the Golden Warriors in a Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference dual meet.
Individual winners for LPOS were Zach Nelson in the 200 individual medley (2 minutes, 11.24 seconds) and Tyler Ditchfield in the 100 butterfly (54.26 seconds).
 
Sophomore boys basketball
Sterling 69, Ottawa 47
At Musgrove Fieldhouse in Sterling, Drew Kaufman had 13 points and six rebounds for the Corsairs (4-4, 1-2) during their NIB 12 West loss to Sterling. Levi Shoulders and Anthony Cooper had eight points apiece.
 
Freshman boys basketball
Ottawa 37, Mendota 16
At Mendota, Briar Naggs scored 14 points to lead the Vikings (2-3) to the win over Mendota. Carter Baudino and Jace Addis added eight and seven points, respectively.
 
Freshman girls basketball
Sandwich 39, Streator 11
At Streator, Claire Roberts scored 17 points, which included a trio of 3-pointers, to lead Sandwich to the win over Streator. Josie Ness added 11 points.
Isabel Kaschke had four points for Streator.
 
JUCO men's basketball
IVCC 68, Morton 67
At Cicero, the Eagles edged Morton College in a nonconference contest.
Isaiah Tubbs scored 21 points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked three shots to lead IVCC (9-5). Keymonta Johnson added 15 points, seven rebounds, five assists, four steals and three blocks. Ty Bland contributed 13 points.
 
JUCO women's basketball
IVCC 76, Oakton 42
At Oglesby, the Lady Eagles beat Oakton Community College in a nonconference game.
Quincie Weber scored 16 points to lead IVCC (8-6). Marquette Academy graduate Hunter Wright added 13 points.
Fellow MA alums Cassidy Murphy and Maddie Dougherty chipped in eight and seven points, respectively.
