Ransom-St. Michael 8s top MVK
The Ransom-St. Michael eighth-grade boys basketball team (11-0) doubled up Mazon-Verona-Kinsman 54-27 in recent action, paced by Alex Ward's 23 points, 12 from Nolan Barr, seven apiece from Tyler Luckey and Cade Stevens, and four courtesy of Blake Ewing.
Prior to that, the RSM 8s won 56-35 over Henry — Luckey with 15 points, Ward with 14, Ewing with 11, Dave Rashid with eight and Barr with six.
Shepherd sweeps Shabbona
A 53-43 eighth-grade victory paced by Anthony Miller's 22 points and 12 rebounds aided by Luke Cushing's 15 points and Dillen Bailey's seven points and a 37-28 seventh-grade triumph led by Levi Sheehan's 14 points and 10 from Dillan Quatrano gave Shepherd's boys cagers a sweep of Morris Shabbona.
Marseilles falls to Sandwich
The Marseilles seventh-grade boys basketball team dropped a 46-35 decision to Sandwich despite 13 points from Colter Figenbaum, nine from Logan Stevenson and six apiece from Ashton Linn and Chase Bowers. The eight-graders lost 40-8 with Alex Castro netting five points.
Dolphins place fifth at invitational
The Ottawa Dolphins finished fifth of the 13 teams at the Barb Wire Classic held at the Kishwaukee YMCA in DeKalb on Saturday.
Finley Jobst finished first in both the 8U 25 backstroke (:19.39) and the 8U 100 IM (1:35.30), while earning second in the 8U 25 freestyle (:17.19). Joseph Ovanic had three second-place finishes (14U 100 butterfly :59.56; 14U 200 freestyle 2:01.25; 14U 100 backstroke 1:04.17), Owen Phillips had a second in the 12U 50 freestyle :27.57, Adam Swanson a second in the 10U breaststroke :42.42, Jonathan Szewczuk a second in the 14U 200 breaststroke 2:46.54 and Lauren Wessels a second in the 10U 50 breaststroke :38.89.
Streator mini-cheer camp Jan. 13
The Streator High School cheerleaders will hold a mini-cheer camp from 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday, January 13 at Pops Dale Gymnasium. The camp is open to girls and boys ages 3-15 and costs $20, with campers getting to show what they learned at halftime of that night's varsity boys basketball game.
