Wallace girls hoops heading to IESA state

The Wallace seventh-grade girls basketball team earned a spot in the IESA 7-1A state quarterfinals with a sectional final victory over Mazon-Verona-Kingsman on Wednesday night in Mazon.

The Lady Warriors (24-0) will now play Morton Blessed Sacrament (15-10) on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Assumption Central A&M Middle School and with a win would play later that night in the semifinals at 6:30 p.m.

Marseilles girls win 8-2A regional tilt

Marseilles's eighth-grade girls basketball squad edged Sparland-Midland 16-15 to advance in regional play. Delaney Cooper scored six points, Dakota Kesler recorded 10 rebounds, and Eva McCallum scored four points for Marseilles.

Northlawn 6s top Pontiac

The Northlawn sixth-grade "B" cagers bested Pontiac 23-16, paced by Brock Minkler's eight points and five from Zander McCloskey. The Panthers "A" team also won, 46-39, with Christian Benning the leading scorer.

Ransom-St. Michael 8s win pair

The eighth-grade boys basketball team from Ransom-St. Michael scored two victories recently — 53-28 over Odell (Alex Ward 16 points, Cade Stevens 13, Nolan Barr nine, Tyler Luckey eight, Davey Rashid five) and 42-19 over Flanagan (Luckey 12 points, Ward, Barr and Stevens with eight apiece, Rashid with four).

The Ransom-St. Michael 7s (7-0) also bested Flanagan, 34-25 (Wyatt Thompson 20 points, Nick Yanek seven, David Burgeron four).

Wallace boys top Grand Ridge

A 48-16 final lifted the Wallace eighth-grade boys cagers over Grand Ridge, with Aaron Threadgill scoring 18 points and Drake Stoudt chipping in nine. Wallace also won the 7s game by a 41-25 count, with Tyler Renkosik scoring 22 points and Bryce Sharp adding eight.

Marseilles falls to Washington

The Marseilles seventh- and eighth-grade boys basketball teams both dropped games to Oglesby Washington. The Marseilles 7s lost 35-31 with Colter Figenbaum scoring 11 points, Ramazan Ibishoski 10 and Logan Stevenson seven. The Marseilles 8s were defeated 41-9 with Devin Henning netting all nine points for MES.

Marquette Academy 5s win three straight

The Marquette Academy fifth-grade girls basketball recently posted wins over Waltham (18-10), Wallace (28-0) and Marseilles (20-6). Against Waltham, Avery Durdan led the Lady Knights with 10 points, she then had 12 points against Wallace, with Maura Condon adding six and Kealey Rick and Maggie Jewett chipping in four each. Durdan also had 10 points in the win over MES with Payton Anderson scoring four.

The MA sixth-graders lost to Waltham 20-16 with Natalie Dyche and Nora Rinearson netting six point apiece, but then topped Wallace 15-6, with Dyche scoring 11, before falling to Marseilles 12-10 with Emma Rinearson and Nora Rinearson each registering four points each.
