AREA ROUNDUP: E-L girls improve to 5-1 with win over DePue

LELAND — The Earlville-Leland girls basketball team used a dominating first quarter, good ball movement and balanced scoring to improve to 5-1 on the season with a 65-32 victory over DePue here Wednesday night.

The Raiders, which shot 50 percent from the field, jumped out to a 23-0 advantage after the opening quarter, led 40-11 at halftime and 57-17 after three in the non-conference win.

Junior Julia Niles led E-L with 16 points, on 7-of-10 shooting, and four steals, while Taylor Weymouth (four rebounds), Alex Koontz (team-high eight rebounds) and Emily Cook (four assists) each netted 10 points each in the triumph.

DePue 56, Leland-Earlville 38
At Leland, the Panthers fell in a non-conference home game to the Little Giants. 
Senior Grant Campbell led L-E with 11 points.

DeKalb 3,451, Ottawa 3,384
At Dettore's Town Lanes, the Pirates fell by just 67 pins to the Barbs in a Northern Illinois Big 12 home matchup. 
Brandan LeRette paced Ottawa with a 630 series, including a 218 high game. Kenny Parise added a 245 game-best and a 624 series, while Bryant Morgan rolled a 232 high game.
 
Hall 2,303, Streator 2,127
At the Streator Elks, the Bulldogs received a 461 series, including a 179 high game, from freshman Ashton Kling, but fell to the Red Devils at home. Senior Chandler Bedecker had a 167 best-game and a 451 series. Jesse Cashmer fired a 160 game.

Hall 2,050, Streator 1,808
At the Streator Elks, the Lady Bulldogs fell in their home match with the Lady Red Devils. Sophomore Kaylee Sroka led the way for Streator with a 393 series, which included a 182 high game. Freshman Hallie Ligori had a 370 series and Madison Mertes a 162 high game.

Pontiac 57, Streator 17
At Pontiac, the Bulldogs fell to both the Titans and the host Indians during Wednesday night's meet. Double winners for Streator were Issac Warwick at 126 pounds and Mike Dunkleberger at 152. Single wins were capture by Ricky Tamez (132), Josh Carter (138), Trenton Frederici (160), Isiah Turner (170) and Tyler Montalvo (220).
Winning JV matches were Nolan Salaz (170) and Isaac Beals (182)

At Dettore's Town Lanes, the Corsairs picked up the NIB 12 victory, behind a 607 series and 204 high game from Joe Sheetz and 213 high game from Adam Gallion.
