Illinois Valley Community College’s Continuing Education Center will offer “Neurotransmitters in Health and Disease” from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, in room C316 of the Oglesby campus.
Barb Bancroft, acclaimed national speaker, will discuss the function of numerous neurotransmitters in both the peripheral and central nervous system. Students will learn about neurotransmitter roles in common clinical conditions including addiction, depression, mood disorders, self-esteem, pain management, schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, bipolar disease and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Current treatment modalities also will be discussed including antidepressants, anti-anxiety agents, anti-convulsants and more.
Bancroft is author of four books including “Kiss My Asparagus,” a guide to nutrition’s role in health and disease. She has provided more than 2,400 educational and motivational seminars on clinical and health maintenance topics throughout the U.S. and Canada.
