A 63-year-old Streator man is accused of spray painting unintelligible letters on a Streator motel door.
Initially, Streator Police had confirmed Wednesday the painting was a swastika, instead Thursday Deputy Chief Bob Turner clarified that symbols believed to be swastikas had been painted in other locations and the investigation involved those as well.
James Steurer, 63, 124 W. Hickory St., was arrested Wednesday afternoon on a complaint of criminal damage to property. Streator police said they received a report Monday of painting on a door in the 2100 block of North Bloomington Street. They arrested Steurer on Wednesday after investigating.
Police also received reports of criminal damage on other properties since Oct. 1, in the following blocks: 100 East Main; 200 North Bloomington; 600 North Monroe; 100 West Hickory; 400 Oakley; and 100 North Vermillion.
Police said Wednesday they expect to pursue more charges against Steurer.
