WILMINGTON — The fourth-seeded Somonauk Lady Bobcats defeated the No. 9 seed Seneca Lady Irish in three sets, 25-18, 22-25, 25-15 in the semifinals of the Wilmington Class 2A Regional on Tuesday night.
Kendall Grewer pounded out 10 kills and came up with nine digs to lead Somonauk. Emma Horsch added seven kills. Sydni Coultrip had five kills and fingerpushed 17 assists.
The Lady Bobcats (23-9) will square off versus top-seeded Chicago Christian for the regional title Thursday night.
For Seneca (13-19-5) — in its final match under veteran head coach Karen Raney — Lexi Greve had eight kills, Maggie Cade and Kylie Winsor eight assists apiece, Grace Alley and Cassidy Draves two blocks each, and Morgan Pifer 16 digs.
Sandwich 25-25, Plano 16-16
At Sandwich, the second-seeded Lady Indians beat the No. 8 seed Lady Reapers in the semifinals of the Sandwich Class 3A Regional.
Sammi LaBolle and Sydney Coselman each pounded out eight kills to lead the Sandwich offensive attack. LaBolle put down a pair of blocks as well, in addition to serving up a couple of aces. Ava Knepper passed out 19 assists. Coselman and Ezbeydy Rivera led the defense with four digs apiece.
The Lady Indians (22-9) square off versus No. 5 seed Aurora Rosary for the regional title Thursday night.
Serena 25-25, Hinckley-Big Rock 13-10
At Serena, the second-seeded Lady Huskers beat the No. 10 seed Lady Royals in straight games in the semifinals of the Serena Class 1A Regional.
Tori Pavnica and Becky Rogers each pounded out five kills to pace the Serena offensive attack. Brianna Engel added four kills and put down a pair of blocks. McKenna Muffler handed out 13 assists. Kylie Shannon led the defense by coming up with 10 digs.
The Lady Huskers will square off versus No. 5 seed Mooseheart for the regional title Thursday night.
Flanagan-Cornell 20-25-29, Grant Park 25-21-27
At Grant Park, the third-seeded Lady Falcons defeated the No. 6 seed Dragons in the semifinals of the Grant Park Class 1A Regional.
Kayla VanWeelden and Liberty Vollmer each pounded out eight kills to lead the Flanagan-Cornell offensive attack. Vollmer, who also accounted for 19 assists, served up four aces as well, while VanWeelden put down three blocks. Kylie Kindermann led the defense by coming up with 10 digs.
The Lady Falcons (16-13-1) will square off versus second-seeded Milford for the regional title Thursday night.
Newark 25-25, Providence-St. Mel 4-5
At Chicago, the top-seeded Lady Norsemen beat the No. 9 seed Lady Knights in straight games in the semifinals of the Chicago St. Francis de Sales Class 1A Regional.
Olivia Nelson served up 12 aces to lead Newark, which will square off versus No. 7 seed Chicago St. Francis de Sales in Thursday's championship match.
El Paso-Gridley 25-26, Fieldcrest 14-24
At El Paso, the No. 5 seed Knights lost to the third-seeded Titans in the semifinals of the El Paso-Gridley Class 2A Regional.
Emma Petersen had 10 kills and 18 digs for Fieldcrest, which ended its season with a 16-15-1 record.
IVCC 3, Black Hawk 0
At Oglesby, the Eagles swept Black Hawk College in an Arrowhead Conference match.
Fieldcrest High School graduate Emma Lohr-Fandel had six kills and 25 digs for IVCC. Marquette Academy alumna Grace Honiotes had four kills and fellow FHS product Lexi Musser seven digs.
