Elizabeth E. 'Lainie' Spencer: 1921-2017


MARSEILLES — Elizabeth Elaine “Lainie” Spencer, 95, of Marseilles, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 24, at Rivershores HealthCare and Rehabilitation Centre.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, at Seals-Campbell Funeral Home in Marseilles.  Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at First Congregational Church in Marseilles with the Rev. Colleen Lawrence and the Rev. Carl Hammer officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Marseilles.

Lainie was born Dec. 21, 1921, in Ottawa, to Arthur and Martha (Bateman) Carlson. On Aug. 15, 1942, she married Allen G. “Bud” Spencer, of Marseilles, who survives.
She was a member of First Congregational Church of Marseilles, its Ladies Auxiliary and sang in the choir for over 60 years. She also was a member of Peru First Congregational Church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a volunteer at Community Hospital of Ottawa.
Lainie is survived by her husband, Bud; a daughter, Sally Spencer, of Marseilles; a son, Tom (Tracy) Spencer, of Marseilles; seven grandchildren, Christopher Spencer, Kevin Spencer, Morgan Spencer, Elizabeth Churchhill, Erin Vonperbandt, April Clements and Bonnie Reilly; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Claire Carlson.
Memorials may be given to the music fund at Marseilles or Peru First Congregational Church.
