Serena boys opens with 2 wins

The Serena seventh- and eighth-grade boys basketball teams both won their season openers over Nettle Creek. The 8s won 50-27, with Dylan Cartwright scoring 14 points, 10 points apiece from Ben Shugrue and Cole Shannon, and both Micheal Arend and Hunter Muffler scoring eight; while the Serena 7s won 35-13 led by Cooper Langston's 17 points.
Wallace takes 2 from Odell
Gianna Leigh (16 points) and Grace Carroll (11) led the Wallace eighth-grade girls cagers to a 43-15 win over Odell. In a 44-8 eighth-grqade triumph, Wallace received 10 points from Taryn Ruhland, eight from Kendall Lowery, and six apiece courtesy of Leigh, Carroll and Lilly Craig.
Grand Ridge 7s win 21-14
A 21-14 final score lifted the Grand Ridge seventh-grade girls basketball squad past Ransom-St. Michael, with Marisa Vickers scoring 10 points, Sadie Lechel six and Nora Cave four. Grand Ridge's 8s fell 32-19, however, despite Sofie Offermann's seven points as well as six apiece from Allie Snyder and Vickers.
Marseilles girls sweep La Salle
Marseilles Elementary won eighth-grade and seventh-grade contests with La Salle — the 8s triumphant 19-15 (Dakota Kesler 11 points, 12 rebounds; Kierstin Wheeler four points) and the 7s victorious 16-10 (Eva McCallum seven points, 10 rebounds; Makayln Vernoy five points).
Signups still accepted for Bullpups wrestling
The Streator Wrestling Bullpups children's wrestling club (for first- through eighth-graders) is still accepting sign-ups. The club's first practice will be held November 1, with the team practicing and competing in tournaments throughout the late fall/winter into early spring.

Illini tailgate next Saturday
Dan and Sheila Eilts will be holding another University of Illinois football tailgate party before the October 28 Wisconsin game, with the game beginning at 11 a.m. All Illini fans are invited to join the tailgate before and after the game in Lot 32 (aka Lot E-14), directly west of State Farm Center. Suggested game-day parking for those without a Lot 32 parking pass is around the corner on St Mary's Road.
