Toys for Tots will soon kick off its 2017 campaign for La Salle, Bureau, Putnam, Marshall and Stark counties at 29 Northpoint Plaza, Streator.

Toys for Tots helps provide Christmas presents for low-income families, and the group's goal is to assist as many families as possible.

The program runs from Sunday, Oct. 1, to Sunday, Dec. 24, and is seeking volunteers, donors and new, unwrapped toys. Schools, businesses and churches are encouraged to assist in fundraising or donations.

Upcoming events include a Thursday, Sept. 28, chili cook-off. Contestants are needed. A quarter auction is planned for Saturday, Oct. 6. Vendors are needed.
