For Streator grad Tyler Wargo and Elmhurst College for that matter, it did not get any better than beating Illinois Wesleyan University.

"It showed what we could do," said Wargo, a freshman. "Taking two of three from them was a great feeling. I think that will help us in the future. We just needed to play our game."

Wargo had hits in all three games. In two of the games, he had two or more hits.

His best personal effort was in the lone EC loss. In the 9-4 loss to IWU, Wargo was 3-for-5 with a triple. He drove home one and scored one in the contest.

In the series opener, a 4-3 EC win, Wargo was 2-for-5 and scored a run. He was 1-for-4 and scored a pair of runs in the second game of the series, a 7-5 win over the Titans, the NCAA Division III defending national champions.

The Elmhurst freshman finished the year with a .317 batting average. Wargo had 39 hits in 123 trips to the plate. Of his hits, seven were doubles, three were triples and one was a homer. He scored 33 times, was issued 20 walks and stole four bases.

Wargo led the team in walks and triples. Elmhurst finished 18-20 overall and 6-15 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.

"When I started this year, I had no idea that I would have a big role," said Wargo. "Baseball-wise this was better than I could have dreamed. Next year, we want to make the conference tournament. This league has a great reputation."

Monmouth College lost an 11-1 decision to Beloit College in the Midwest Conference Tournament. Ottawa grad Mitch Johnson was 1-for-3 for Monmouth. He had one of four Monmouth hits.

Only three athletes had hits. Former Woodland player Lucas Skul suffered the loss. In 2 2/3 innings of work, he allowed 10 earned runs on 10 hits. He walked four batters and fanned three.

Skul slipped to 4-4. Monmouth is 17-14 overall and 6-6 in the MWC.
