Ottawa police say four out-of-towners they arrested Wednesday at Kroger South came to Ottawa to pass bogus checks.

Arrested were Marquez A. Davis, also known as Johnny Carter, 28, 5211 Tolliver, Springfield, Mo.; Carmelita C. Parker, 24, 6446 Marshfield, Chicago; Kenedra R. Harris, 20, 1054 W. 63rd St., Chicago; and Octavia M. Anderson, 33, 445 Prairie St., Calumet City.

Each was charged with conspiracy to commit forgery. According to the La Salle County State's Attorney's Office, the four manufactured eight counterfeit checks and drove to Ottawa to present the checks at the two Kroger stores in Ottawa. The charges are punishable by probation or prison. Davis was also wanted on a North Dakota warrant for conduct involving theft, fraud and/or prostitution.

According to court documents, all four are jobless. Anderson receives disability payments. As of Friday, all remained in the county jail, except for Parker who was released after a relative posted $2,500 bond.
