2010 RESOLUTIONS
Print this storyNot quite a bucket list, but just in case ...
OH OH Did you read about Russia's plans to send a spacecraft to knock a large asteroid off course and reduce the chance of Earth impact, just in case its scheduled flyby comes a little too close in 2029? According to the Associated Press, Russia's space agency chief is even considering inviting NASA, the Chinese space agency and others to sit in on planning meetings. What could possibly go wrong? JUST WONDERING A lot of folks are screaming about the new tightened security at airports around the world. Invasion of privacy. How dare they inconvenience us? Why do they seem to be the same people complaining about the lack of screening when terrorists get caught, and then blame authorities from President Obama on down for not doing anything to stop it? Why is national security, even an attempted terrorist attack, a partisan issue? You'd think this would be an issue where the nation's leaders — regardless of political ideology — would work together. It must be pretty profitable for media, political consulting firms and others with all the partisanship. No surprise. Just follow the money. AND IN SPORTS Congratulations to the Marseilles Elementary School Board, Superintendent JoEllen Fuller, Principal and Athletic Director Jeff Owens, staff, boosters and parents. After nearly 20 years, high school basketball returned to Marseilles over the Christmas break. Official high school sponsorship for the Marseilles Holiday Tournament was handled by Marquette High School. The Marseilles community should be very proud for providing some excellent high school hoops and support for all eight teams and their fans. Gate receipts go to support Marseilles elementary sports programs. Veteran sportscaster and partner Jim Thompson gave the hospitality and food his four-star rating. Agreed.
