Q. I read Monday's story in The Times about A Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Service, the nonprofit Streator organization that offers 24-hour service, providing shelter, emergency care and counseling for victims of violence in La Salle and Livingston counties. Does it need donations? How old do volunteers have to be?
A. Monetary donations can be sent to ADV/SAS's administrative office at P.O. Box 593, Streator, IL 61354. For donations of clothing or household items, ADV/SAS asks donors to call ahead at 815-673-1555 to see if the shelter has space for the donation. To volunteer, the person must be at least 21 years of age and go through 65 hours of training, which includes the history of services provided to victims and information on working with victims, said Margaret Morrison, executive director of ADV/SAS.
