Recently the DeKalb County Community Foundation awarded a $6,000 grant to the Somonauk Police Department to be used for the department's Emergency Vehicle Adaption Project. The grant will be used to purchase new mobile radios and an in-car digital camera. The new radios will be placed into all the department's vehicles to make them compatible with the federal government's re-banding of all radio frequencies. The in-car digital camera will be placed in the Dodge Dakota, which was a seized vehicle that, through grant funding, has been equipped to be a functional patrol vehicle. Pictured is Somonauk Police Chief Richard A. Smith receiving a check from DCCF Director Daniel Gudmunson.
