Winners of the $1,500 Helen Taylor Scholarship at Illinois Valley Community College this fall are (from left) Michael Pangrcic, DePue High School salutatorian; Elizabeth Adams, Rhema Christian Academy valedictorian; Ashley Schwingle, La Moille High School salutatorian; Caitlin Rinker, Ottawa Township High School valedictorian; Chloe Schmitt, top 2 percent Streator Township High School and Joseph Buchanan, Mendota High School valedictorian. Another recipient, Lora Ossola, Putnam County High School valedictorian, was not available for the photo. Taylors are awarded each year to all incoming freshmen who were valedictorians, salutatorians or graduated in the top 2 percent of their class. The award is named for the late Helen Taylor of Peru who left more than $100,000 to IVCC in her will. Her bequest led to the creation of the Foundation in 1976 and has funded 252 scholarships since 1978.
