Viewers of La Salle County's visitors guide have a good idea what the new guidebook for the Marseilles and Seneca area will look like.

The Illinois River Area Chamber of Commerce has hired Kathy Knoblauch of Knoblauch Advertising in Oglesby, who designed the county guide, to produce its own.

The new association will allow the chamber to sponsor a more versatile publication, providing more than a general overview of the area.

The new guide will go beyond tourism attractions into a more multipurpose format. It will include information that can be used by those considering moving to the area, said Patti Smith, the chamber's executive director.

The new guide will incorporate maps of both communities, which previously were separately published.

Besides the printed guide, there also will be an online "flipbook" edition where Web viewers can "turn" the online pages and see exactly the same thing as if viewing a printed copy. For an example, see the county edition at www.enjoylasallecounty.com.

Other advantages are the new publication, designed to have a shelf life of three years, will be completely customized for the chamber and locally produced, helping keep the money spent on the publication within the community, Smith said.

Advertising from local businesses will be featured in the guide, and special prices will be in effect for those who make early space reservations. In another new twist, advertisers will be able to pay by credit card, previously not an option, said Julie Alaimo of the chamber staff.

For additional information, call Alaimo at the chamber office, 815-795-2323.

The chamber's Web site is www.iracc.org.
