A man charged in a Bureau County shooting case, who has ties to La Salle County, made bond Monday.
Print this storyDelargo L. Gullens is charged with firing four gunshots at an occupied house June 16 in DePue. The 21-year-old Gullens was arrested about three hours later in Peru and lodged in the Bureau County Jail. On Monday, Sandy Merritte posted $1,500 for Gullens' release. Gullens was set for a pretrial hearing today at 1:15 p.m. Gullens' codefendant, 27-year-old Maria L. Gasca — who also has had ties to La Salle County — pleaded guilty Sept. 17 to mob action. She spent three months in custody and was sentenced to conditional discharge and to pay a fine and costs. However, five days after she pleaded guilty, she was returned to prison for parole violation, where she had been for possession of marijuana. Gasca is set to be released Saturday, Feb. 6. Police said they believe the shooting was in retaliation for an incident the day before in Ottawa between Gasca and a man who lived at the DePue home. No one was hurt in the shooting. Gullens also was charged June 15 in La Salle County with slashing tires. In recent years he has had addresses in Streator, La Salle, Princeton and Aurora. |
