A Marseilles man, charged with theft and failure to register as a sex offender, appeared in the La Salle County courtroom of Circuit Judge Cynthia Raccuglia Monday following his arrest over the weekend.
Print this storyKenneth E. Verly, 21, 605 Young St., was taken into custody by Marseilles police after a report was filed that he took a Tom Tom Global Positioning System unit valued at $300 from Nancy Verly, same address, without authorization. Verly then was charged with failure to register as a sex offender, a Class 3 felony, when authorities learned he had recently moved from his family's home. By Illinois statute, all convicted sex offenders must register with local authorities within three days every time they cease to have a fixed residence or they move to another location. Raccuglia set Verly's bond at $20,000 and appointed him an attorney from the public defender's office. He needs $2,000 cash to be released from county lockup. Besides prior sex convictions, Verly's La Salle County criminal record includes theft and loitering. He previously has spent time in jail. Verly has had addresses in Marseilles and Seneca in recent years. |
