CAIRO, Ill. (AP) — Authorities say two women found dead in a burning house in the far southern Illinois town of Cairo had been fatally shot. Illinois State Police say 29-year-old Beatrice Barber of Cairo and 27-year-old Eva Hill of Charleston, Mo., died in the fire Monday.

Authorities say both women died of gunshot wounds, not from injuries resulting from the fire.

The investigation continues by state police, the Illinois State Fire Marshal and Cairo police.

There have been no arrests.
