A Streator man on parole from prison and already facing auto theft charges from Oglesby, was hit Friday with new charges of arson and burglary stemming from Ottawa.

Richard D. Goeringer, 38, 804 E. Broadway St., was charged Friday with burglarizing and setting fire to a house the morning of Oct. 21 at 1702 Guion St. The house, which sustained about $25,000 damage, was unoccupied and under renovation. Goeringer has done construction work since his parole March 11.

Ottawa Police detectives said the owners of the house told them a large amount of building materials had been removed from the house before the fire. Acting on tips and witness accounts, detectives found some of the materials at 102 W. Broad St., Rutland, in La Salle County's panhandle.

In the meantime on Oct. 26, Goeringer was arrested in Oglesby and charged with two counts of auto theft and one count of unauthorized possession of a vehicle title. Goeringer was inside a house in which he had been doing construction work, when cornered by police. Because Goeringer made statements that aroused concern for police safety, the sheriff's tactical team was called in to break down the door and take Goeringer. A 2001 Ford Mustang stolen from Streator, was found in the garage. Goeringer was drivento the county jail after the arrest, needing as of Friday $15,000 to make bond.

Goeringer was in prison for a Will County conviction for aggravated unlawful restraint.
