A Streator man was sentenced to jail and probation Thursday in a plea agreement sanctioned by Circuit Court Judge Cynthia Raccuglia for an August burglary attempt of a popular downtown restaurant.
Print this storyAndrew Berg, 46, 216 S. Everett St., confessed guilt to charges of attempted burglary and possession of burglary tools. Following a negotiated deposition with La Salle County prosecutors, he was handed 60 days in jail with 30 months probation. He was given credit for two days previously spent in county lockup and fines and costs were waived. Berg was arrested on Aug. 5 by Streator police after they were alerted by reports of suspicious noises outside De Lee's Fine Dining Restaurant, 527 S. Illinois St. He was caught a block away with a pick ax and a bag full of screwdrivers, flashlights, and other tools thought to be of use in the attempted break-in through the restaurant's damaged exhaust fan. The building was not entered. Berg was immediately taken into custody. He had been free on $20,000 bond and has a prior burglary conviction from 1985. |
