St. Patrick's 8th-grade girls split

The St. Patrick's eighth-grade girls basketball team split a pair of recent games.

The Lady Irish defeated Wallace Grade School 40-17. Quinn Kistenfeger had 19 points and three assists to lead St. Pat's. Ashley Hollenbeck tallied eight points, while Jasmin Bailey produced six points, five assists and four steals.

St. Patrick's fell 30-25 to Fieldcrest. Bailey had 15 points, nine rebounds and two assists for the Lady Irish. Erin Newbury tallied eight points and three rebounds. Michaela Neurohr had eight rebounds and two steals.

St. Patrick's claims 3rd place in tournament

The St. Patrick's seventh-grade boys basketball team took third at the Trinity Catholic Tournament.

The Irish opened with a 31-14 win over Peru Catholic. Michael Sypniewski had 11 points and nine rebounds for St. Pat's. Drew Nelson added nine points and 18 rebounds.

Next, St. Patrick's fell 40-33 to Trinity. Nelson paced the Irish with 11 points and seven rebounds. Kray Wheeler produced nine points, and Sypniewski grabbed 10 rebounds.

Finally, in the third-place game, St. Pat's prevailed 46-18 over Spring Valley JFK. Sypniewski had a big game with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Brett Johnson added 12 points and five steals as part of a solid defensive game.
