OTTAWA ROTARY
Print this storyIn 1996, record rains hit the Aurora area and flowed down the Fox River through and around the Dayton Dam. The massive amount of rushing water and debris overwhelmed the four chutes that provided water for hydroelectric generation and then created an overflow stream down the left side of the chutes. Local engineer Gene Sarver was in charge of reducing further water damage and stabilizing and re-establishing the cabability of the unit to generate electricity. Kevin Provance and the Western Sand and Gravel Co. began around-the-clock deliveries of clay, rock and gravel-about 480 truckloads worth. Thus began a two year effort to re-establish the operations of the plant. Rotaruians learned this history about the flood from Sarver, who provided the program Nov. 4. Dan Braley opended the meeting with the pledge and Joe provided a prayer. Randy Repp led singing of "Take Me Out To The Ballgame." Jerry Halterman won the drawing and many visitors were welcomed. Braley also reported two of our Rotarians or family members were experiencing serious health problems. The next meeting will be Wednesday, Nov. 11. |
