Members of the First United Methodist Church high school-and-up Sunday school class in Streator recently raised funds and had three services Oct. 24 and Oct. 25, in which they promoted Operation Christmas Child.

The program packs a shoebox full of Christmas presents, school supplies, hygeine supplies, candy and storybooks for underpriveliged children across the world. Each shoebox is based on age categories, 2 to 14 years old. Samaritan's Purse, which is organized by Franklin Graham, son of Billy Graham, heads the national program.

The Sunday school class raised $278.67. The church's goal is to reach 100 boxes — 50 from the class and 50 from the congregation. Class members use funds raised to purchase items for the boxes and to supply the $7 needed for shipping. A good amount of the supplies and donations come from friends and family of the church. All the boxes will be collected at United Methodist in Ottawa and sent from there.

Members of Ron Armstrong's Sunday school class are Leigh Ann Zmia, Jeannette Sims, Steven Schuster, Melinda Sims, Shelby Simpson, Natalie Eurich, Amber Henson, Payton Billups, Stephanie Simpson and Becca Stith.
