A Streator man was hospitalized following a Tuesday night fire at Del Monte Court in Streator.

Grand Ridge Fire Chief Michael Jaegle said Ronald McBride, who lives at 31 Del Monte Court, was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. According to the chief, McBride was walking outside of the mobile home when the department arrived.

Jaegle said Grand Ridge volunteer firefighters responded at 7:22 p.m. and had the fire under control in less than 15 minutes. The fire, which destroyed the front part of the home where the kitchen was located, took approximately 45 minutes to extinguish.

Neighbors said the trailer park manager shut off the gas and electric to the mobile home promptly.

According to Jaegle, the cause is unknown and under investigation.

Robert Chamberlin, who lives at 32 Del Monte Court, right outside McBride's kitchen window, said he responded quickly as he saw flames shoot through the windows of his neighbor's home.

"Iwas sitting next door with my kids and I saw the flames,"Chamberlin said. "Itook my kids down to my cousin's. While we waited for the fire department to arrive, (neighbors) grabbed a hose and sprayed water on the trailer to control the fire."

Chamberlin said McBride told him the smoke woke him up.
