A Streator man, wanted for sexual abuse and retail theft, was taken into custody by Streator Police over the weekend after the La Salle County State's Attorney's Office issued a warrant for his arrest on Oct. 30.

Circuit Court Judge H. Chris Ryan, Jr. set his bond at $50,000 Monday.

John W. Rice, 41, 605 Iowa St., was taken into custody for a July 20 incident in which authorities allege sexual misconduct with a child under the age of 13. The retail theft charge came from a report involving Circle K East, 920 E. Main St., where a case of beer was stolen earlier this year.

Rice had previously been convicted of theft in Livingston County in January of 2003.

Ryan assigned the public defender's office to represent Rice at his next court appearance on Nov. 13. He needs $5,000 cash to be released from county jail.
