A second teenager was arrested during the weekend in Ottawa in connection with an attempted purse snatching last week in Peru.
Print this storyCameron A. Denunzio, 17, 427 Ryall St., Marseilles, was arrested Wednesday and charged with trying to steal a woman's purse outside Jo-Ann Fabrics in Peru, as The Times reported online Thursday and in print Friday. A second suspect, who turned out to be Joseph A. Adams, 17, 521 Highland Ave., Dixon, was questioned at the time, but released pending further investigation. Peru Police Chief Doug Bernabei said Peru police later learned Adams gave them a false name. Bernabei explained the circumstances that led to charges against Adams. On Saturday, Ottawa police arrested Adams on shoplifting and obstruction of justice complaints. The obstruction complaint was lodged because Adams gave a name police determined was false. Ottawa police called Peru police after determining Adams' recent link to Peru, giving Adams' real name to Peru police. Adams was taken to the county jail. With Adams' real name and other information developed in their investigation, Peru went to the state's attorney's office, which charged Adams with attempted robbery. Bernabei said the help of Ottawa police was "critical." |
