OMICRON

Members and guests of Omicron Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International met in October at Chapin"s Restaurant in Morris. President Beverly Madsen welcomed the group and dinner was served.

The program for the evening, "Chalk Drawing to Music," was presented by Diane Kettelson, Rho Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Lambda state research chairwoman. Kettelson, an artist and musician, did a chalk drawing of the Painted Desert while listening to music by composer Ferde Grofe titled "The Grand Canyon Suite." She will return to Omicron Chapter next November as the chapter"s state visitor.

In Madsen"s president report, members were asked to mark their calendars for Friday, April 23, to Sunday, April 25, for the 75th State Convention in Springfield. In honor of the 75th anniversary celebration, attendees are asked to wear vintage hats and gloves to the luncheon. Madsen reminded members that the chapters donate items for the art mart sale at the convention to raise funds for the M. Josephine O"Neil fund. This scholarship is awarded to a sophomore or junior girl in college who is outstanding in the fine arts. Any talented young woman should apply for this award of $3,000.The information and forms are on the Lambda State Web site.

Madsen announced the Omicron Chapter will again host the Orientation for Chapter Leaders Saturday, June 12.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, Nov. 17, at Pitstick Pavilion in Ottawa. Initiation will be at 6 p.m. The program is "Meet the Initiates" presented by the initiation committee. The chapter will continue to gather school supplies for a January distribution to schools. Donated nonperishable foods will be distributed to the local food pantries for Thanksgiving.
