La Salle County: Races start to shape up with first day filings
Interesting La Salle County government elections already began to shape up on the first day of filing Monday for the Feb. 2 primary election. - Maverick County Board member Stephen Carlson, R-Mendota, is being challenged in the Republican primary election for the District 2 seat by Joanne McNally, also of Mendota.
- In District 10, Robert Vickery of Peru, who was replaced as a University of Illinois trustee on Sept. 8, has filed as a candidate. Although so far unopposed in the primary, in November the Republican may face incumbent Art Rigby, D-Peru, who also filed for re-election.
- In District 13, former board member Joe Panzica of La Salle filed in the Democratic primary. Four years ago, Panzica lost to Republican Mike Beavers. Earlier this year, Beavers resigned from the board to move to Canada and was replaced by Susan Thornton of rural Ottawa.
- Other incumbent Democrats who have filed for re-election include Rick Scott and Tom Walsh, both of Ottawa, Joe Savitch of La Salle and Bob Greenwalt of Sandwich.
Incumbent Republicans County Sheriff Tom Templeton and County Treasurer Don Lamps filed for re-election. Democrat James Carlson filed for regional superintendent of schools. Carlson is the assistant to current superintendent Rich Myers, who has announced he will not seek re-election and is supporting Carlson.
