Ottawa Pony League looking for coaches, board members

Youngsters from Streator, Ottawa advance to Soldier Field in NFL Punt, Pass and Kick Competition

The Streator Family YMCA hosted one of seven NFL Punt, Pass and Kick sectional tournaments held statewide on Oct. 18.

Winners from each of those sectionals had their scores compared with the top four competitors in different age groups getting the chance to compete on Nov. 8 during the Chicago Bears game against the Arizona Cardinals. Six of the eight Streator sectional champions had scores that placed them in the top four of their age division.

Streator's Delanie Johnson won the girls 10-11 division. Fellow Streator resident Jaliesa Washington won the girls 14-15 division.

Ottawa's Austin Burant won the boys 14-15 division. Odell Samantha Battle claimed the girls 12-13 grouping while Cade Gorzny of Oregon won the boys 8-9 division. Kyle Seebach of Rochelle won the boys 10-11 division.

Shepherd 8th-graders earn spot in tournament title game

The Shepherd Middle School eighth-grade girls basketball team advanced to the Starved Rock Conference Tournament championship game with a 38-24 win over Peru.

Emily Watts led the Lady Rams (10-3) with eight points and seven rebounds. Catie Carlson tallied six points and five steals. Taylor Jansen had six points and six rebounds. Maddie Goetz produced six points as well.

Danielle Finn had five points and eight rebounds. Sammy Buck scored four points.

Also, the Lady Rams beat Wallace 29-8. Watts had nine points and eight rebounds for Shepherd. Carlson added six points. Abby Herrera and Carly Charbouneau each had four points.

For Wallace, Christina Moore led the way with four points.

Shepherd 7th-graders split two contests

The Shepherd Middle School seventh-grade girls basketball team opened the Starved Rock Conference Tournament with a 24-15 loss to Princeton.

Liz Lowe had four points and nine rebounds for the Lady Rams (5-8). Aubrey Tarr also scored four points. Kenzy Mitchell, Melissa Conway and Cambria Threadgill had two points each.

Prior to that contest, Shepherd picked up a 21-14 win over Wallace. Lowe, Ryan Pehlps and Lily VanDerHeide each had four points for Shepherd. Threadgill scored three points.

For Wallace, Ariyahona Paves had four points. Hunter Wright, Makenzie Mates, Holly Partridge, Molly Bule and Jenny Krone each had two points.

St. Columba 5th-graders pick up two wins

The St. Columba fifth-grade girls basketball team claimed two recent victories.

St. Columba claimed a 14-4 win over Milton Pope. Maggie Landers and Hannah Miskell each scored four points in the contest. Aurora Flavel, Elizabeth Gonzalo and Nicole Schalk had two points apiece.

Long led Milton Pope with four points.

Also, the Lady Spartans took down Grand Ridge by an unspecified score. Flavel led the way with six points. Miskell and Lexi Lawry tallied two points each.

St. Columba 6th-graders also win twice

The St. Columba sixth-grade girls basketball team earned two solid victories recently.

The Lady Spartans took down Mendota Holy Cross 34-3. Tayah Guerrero had 12 points and Alexa Linde scored seven points. Katherine Dyche had six points while Lauren Walker tallied four points.

Also, SCS beat Grand Ridge by an unspecified score. Guerrero led the attack with eight points. Walker and Linde had six points each, while Dyche tallied three points.

St. Columba did drop an 11-7 contest to Milton Pope. Guerrero had four points. Dyche tallied two points while Madison Riebe had one point.

St. Columba currently is 5-2 on the season.

St. Patrick's 6th-graders reach double digits in wins

The St. Patrick's sixth-grade girls basketball team claimed three recent victories.

St. Patrick's posted a 20-8 win over Trinity Catholic. Madelyn Thompson had 16 points while Cate Thompson scored two points. Shelby Leonard and Maddie Dougherty also scored.

The Lady Irish cruised past Marseilles 26-2. Madelyn Thompson had 16 points while Katie Sypniewski tallied six points.

Next, St. Pat's beat Fieldcrest 12-7. Madelyn Thompson scored eight points for St. Patrick's (11-1). Darby Leonard and Cate Thompson had two points each.

St. Patrick's 5th-graders suffer first loss

The St. Patrick's fifth-grade girls basketball team split a pair of recent contests.

The Lady Irish defeated Marseilles 30-6. Gracy Neilsen scored 10 points. Maddie Dougherty and Cate Thompson added six points each.

St. Patrick's then suffered a tough 13-7 loss in double overtime. Dougherty led the Lady Irish (7-1) with four points. Anna Sypniewski had three points.

McKnight, Winkler honored as Fieldcrest's Most Valuable Golfers

Fieldcrest High School announced its golf award winners from the past season.

Chris McKnight was named the boys Most Valuable Golfer. He also had the team's low average with a 40.3. Pat Newhalften earned the Silver Knight award while Michael Winkler was the Bronze Knight recipient.

Lucas Gaspardo and Jeremy Flahaven were named the Most Improved Golfers. Michael Roeing-Donna had the junior varsity team's low average with a 48.5.

On the girls side, Megan Winkler claimed the Most Valuable Golfer award while also having the team's low average. Taylor Pickard was chosen as the Most Improved Golfer. Makenzie Gensler won the Jaclyn Park Memorial Award.

Milton Pope 7th-, 8th-graders split

The Milton Pope seventh- and eighth-grade girls basketball teams split with Oglesby Washington on Tuesday.

The seventh-graders produced a 29-20 win. Lexi Trompeter had 16 points while Jenni Nugent scored seven points.

Milton Pope's eighth-graders fell 45-42. Cassidy Rice had 23 points for the Lady Pilots. Alexa Myre ahd eight points while Megan Ward scored six points.

St. Patrick's 8th-graders fall in overtime

The St. Patrick's eighth-grade girls basketball team fell 34-33 in overtime to Milton Pope in recent action.

Jasmin Bailey had a standout game for the Lady Irish with 22 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Ashley Hollenbeck scored eight points. Michaela Neurohr tallied nine rebounds and three steals, while Quinn Kistenfeger had six steals.

Seneca 8th-graders win again; 7th-graders fall

The Seneca Grade School seventh- and eighth-grade girls basketball teams split with Gardner-South Wilmington.

The Seneca eighth-graders produced another win, downing G-SW by a 30-18 count. Kayla Haines scored 15 points for the Lady Raiders (12-1). Savannah Baldauf had four points while Sarah Radtke tallied three points.

Seneca's seventh-graders fell 37-7. Savannah Greenwall had seven points for the Lady Raiders (5-8).
