Streator City Council members Wednesday delayed adding the enterprise zone property tax incentive for the Livingston County portion of the zone to its agenda.
Print this storyThe enterprise zone includes the city and portions of La Salle and Livingston counties. "The enterprise zone expansion was tabled and delayed by the Livingston County Board," City Manager Paul Nicholson said. "Rather than act prematurely, we wanted to wait." Nicholson still believes the incentive will pass the La Salle and Livingston County boards. "Ianticipate it will pass," he said. "Since it only involves Livingston County, I see no reason for opposition at the La Salle County level. There's no sense of immediacy or urgency on the project." With the potential approval of the amendment, 100 percent of property taxes would be recovered by some school districts in Livingston County through state aid in addition to state aid the districts would normally receive. Livingston County school districts in support of the amendment include Dwight High School, Dwight Grade School, Odell, Saunemin and Pontiac High. |
