Sharing the holiday experience with area children and families in need is the design of the Seneca Police Department's first annual "Shop with a Cop" program scheduled for this December.

According to Seneca Police Chief Ray Meglan, the city's police officers will escort selected children and their parents on holiday shopping adventures throughout the town to promote local businesses. "We hope to provide an unforgettable Christmas experience for certain families who may have been affected by the recent economic downturn," Meglan said.

After the shopping spree, the children will be brought back to the police station to wrap their presents and to enjoy refreshments.

"This is a positive program that will help kids and people in our community and make friends for the department," Meglan insisted.

The chief is asking anyone who would like to contribute to the program to drop off or mail their donation to the department at 303 N. Cash St., Seneca, IL 61360. "The more cash contributions we receive, the more children we can involve with this program," Meglan said.

Any questions about the program should be directed to Meglan or Sgt. George Lamboley at 815-357-8726.
