Ottawa
  • Justin J. Francis, 36, 529 Guthrie St., was cited Sunday at 301 W. Lafayette St., for attempted obstruction of justice. He was released with a notice to appear in court.
  • Marjorie Girard, 38, 1219 W. Washington St., was arrested in the 100 block of Black Forest Street on a warrant for failure to appear in court on a charge of driving on a suspended license. He was taken to the county jail.
  • Christopher D. Collings, 20, 1019 Poplar St., was cited Sunday for driving under the influence, driving without a valid license, improper lane use and unlawful consumption of alcohol. He was released with a notice to appear in court.
  • Thomas M. Bongartz, 44, 614 Marcy St., was cited Sunday at Lafayette Street and Boyce Memorial Drive for driving under the influence and improper lane use. He was released after posting $300 bond. Passenger Keith F. McGinnis, 51, 2951 E. 1489th Road, Ottawa, was cited for permitting a person to drive under the influence. He was released on a personal bond.
  • Rebecca L. Gorawski, 70, 737 Marcy St., was cited Sunday at Marcy and Moore streets for driving under the influence of alcohol and improper lane use. She was released on a personal bond.


Sheridan
  • Rosa M. Echevarria, 52, Chicago, was arrested at 5:05 p.m. Sunday at Robinson and Church streets on a complaint of driving while license suspended. She was taken to the police station where she was released with a court date.


Streator

  • Brittany E. Bruce, 22, 609 N. Everett St., was cited Saturday at North Point and North Bloomington streets for driving on a suspended license. The passenger, Kimberly J. Genest, 28, 911 E. Bridge St., was cited for allowing an unauthorized person to drive. Both were released with court dates.


State Police

  • Matthew T. Peterson, 27, Seneca, was stopped for failure to dim headlights Sunday at 1:19 a.m. on U.S. 34 near Route 23, then cited for driving while intoxicated and illegal transportation of alcohol. He posted bond and was released.


Fire Calls

  • Ottawa firefighters were called to extinguish a mattress on fire at 4:11 p.m. Sunday in the basement of 529 Catherine St. No injuries were reported and damage was not yet assessed in the ongoing investigation.
  • Ottawa firefighters responded to a panel alarm at Public Action to Deliver Shelter, 1120 Canal St., at 12:36 p.m. Friday. Workers sweeping up drywall materials and dust apparently activated the alarm. No fire was found and the panel was reset.
  • Ottawa firefighters were called to investigate a possible clothes dryer fire at 1:54 p.m. Saturday at 316 1/2 Prairie St. The resident said he smelled smoke after starting the dryer and it did not stop after he opened the door. Firefighters turned off gas to the appliance and advised the resident to contact a qualified repair service.
  • Ottawa firefighters responded to an activated alarm at 6:51 a.m. Saturday at 900 Paul St. Inside the apartment, investigators reported a cooking odor and a slight haze of smoke. No fire was found and there was no loss. Rooms were ventilated and the alarm was reset.
  • Streator firefighters responded to an apartment at Liberty Village, 2322 N. Eastwood Ave., Saturday at 5:38 p.m. to investigate a panel alarm set off by smoke from a faulty electrical lamp. No fire or damage was reported. The lamp was thrown away and the alarm reset.
