STARVED ROCK MODEL A CLUB
Print this storyOn Sept. 19, The Starved Rock Model "A" Club toured Historic Route 66 from Joliet to Pontiac. The sites visited included Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood; Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie Preserve and the Launching Pad Drive-In, Wilmington; the Polka-Dot Drive-In, Braidwood; the Ambler-Becker Texaco Gas Station, Dwight; the Standard-Sinclair Gas Station, Odell; and the Route 66 Hall of Fame and Museum and the Old Log Cabin Restaurant in Pontiac. The club enjoyed picnics in July and August at Oak Grove Park, DePue and Centennial Park in Peru. Other summer activities the club participated in were the Ladd Summer Fest Cruise Night, a Heritage Woods "cruise in" for residents in Ottawa, a gathering with the Peoria Club at Kenyon"s Restaurant in Lacon, the Cherry Mine Disaster Memorial Cruise, La Salle County Cruisers Car Show in Ottawa, Illinois Valley Rodders Car Show in Peru, Yorkville Car Show, Model "A" Day in Amana, Iowa, Amboy Depot Days, Paw Paw Car Show, Illinois &Michigan Canal Boat excursion, and Hegler-Carus Mansion Tour. The club is currently making plans to drive their "As" to Oregon, Ill., for a scenic fall colors cruise aboard the paddlewheeler "The Pride of Oregon."
