The Thirteenth Judicial Circuit Family Violence Prevention Council will host a training session featuring Diane Zosky, associate professor at Illinois State University, in the School of Social Work, titled "Is It All In My Head? How Survivors Respond to Violence and Trauma" from 8:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Oct. 13, at the Illinois Valley Community College Cultural Center in Oglesby.

Participants will learn how neurophysiology and the brain function during and as a result of violence; the implications of trauma on memory and the functions of daily living; the effects of trauma on neurological responses to post-traumatic stress disorder; and interventions suggested by the neurological response to trauma. Social Work continuing education and professional development units for the three-hour training will be available.

The cost of the training is $5, payable at the door. Registration is required by Tuesday, Oct. 6. Interested parties should contact the Family Violence Prevention Council at 815-431-0630 or e-mail 13fvpc@mchsi.com.

The Family Violence Prevention Council is a community coalition that brings together concerned citizens, the judiciary, law enforcement, social service agencies, educators, health care professionals and the faith community to work on preventing interpersonal violence in all forms.
