LIVINGSTON COUNTY COUNCIL

Livingston County Council of the American Legion Auxiliary met Aug. 31 at the Community Building in Saunemin.

Vice president Judy Ehlers of the Cullom Unit called the meeting to order and introduced Linda Vercler, Sherryl Nelsen and Diane Shapland, who installed the officers for the 2009-2011 Auxiliary years. The officers are Judy Ehlers, Cullom Unit, president; Diana Taylor, Cullom Unit, vice president; JoAnn Petri, Flanagan Unit, secretary; Marsha Haag, Cullom Unit, treasurer; Mary Miles, Flanagan Unit, historian; Margaret Woltzen, Long Point Unit, chaplain; and Mildred Girard, Cornell Unit, sergeant-at-arms.

Ehlers introduced Cyntha Brackney, president of the Saunemin Unit, who welcomed the group to Saunemin and introduced Carol Cantrall, who read a story on the origin and history of "Taps." Jack Rich then played "Taps" on the trumpet.

Seven unit presidents answered roll call and reported on their units' activities since the last council meeting in June. There were 31 member present. The minutes were read and approved and the treasurer's report was given.

Mildred Girard, chairwoman of the auditing committee, reported the books had been audited and were found to be in order.

Diane Shapland, past historian, read the history for the 2007-2009 auxiliary years.

The meeting was adjourned following the closing prayer and singing of "God Bless America." The Saunemin Unit served lunch.
