An "unknown male with a note" robbed the Peru Federal Savings Bank late Friday afternoon and escaped in a "light blue car," taking an undetermined amount of cash.

Within the hour, according to a Peru police employee, police surrounded a light blue car near the Aldi parking lot off Columbus Drive. According to Peru Deputy Chief Bob Pyszka, "two people of interest" were being held and questioned in connection with the holdup.

Pyszka said his department received the alarm about 5 p.m and were on the scene with minutes. The entire bank, 914 Shooting Park Road, was surrounded with yellow police tape, and several squad cars blocked all entrances.

Four or five bank employees were held in the facility and interviewed by Peru investigators for some time following the robbery. Located on a very busy street, the surrounded bank attracted curious customers, and other motorists slowed as they headed home after work.

Police did not say if a weapon involved and there were no injuries reported.

Pyszka said there might be a lineup to see if bank employees could identify the two persons picked up in Ottawa. He added the FBI would be contacted as is standard procedure in all bank robberies.
