Michael Morrisey, 16, celebrated earning his Eagle Rank in the Boy Scouts of America with his Eagle Court of Honor.

Michael started as a Tiger cub in 1999 and earned his Arrow of Light in 2003. He has been a member of Troop 240 in Kissimmee, Fla., since 2004. During his time in the Boy Scouts, Michael has traveled to Georgia, where he camped for a week near the Appalachian Trail. He attended Philmont Scout Reservation in Cimarron, N.M., in 2008, where he hiked and camped for 10 days. He attended Junior Leader training for a week at Camp La-No-Che in Florida. Since 2008, Morrisey has been an aquatics instructor and counselor for Camp La-No-Che Summer Camp in Paisley, Fla.

For his Eagle Project, Morrisey led a group of approximately 20 scouts and adults in a restoration project for the Council on Aging of Osceola County. The Council on Aging is a nonprofit group that relies almost solely on donations. The Council's main building is a meeting place where older people can go to socialize as well as gain assistance with various needs, ranging from Meals-On-Wheels to general home repairs, or in more severe situations, hurricane damage.

Morrisey's project consisted of several landscape projects for the building, including two tranquility gardens, cleaning and landscaping the entrances to the building, creating a low-maintenance drainage area and general clean-up and debris removal from the area around the building.

Morrisey is the second Scout in his family to attain the Eagle rank. Christopher, Michael's older brother, earned his Eagle rank in 2004. Michael is the son of Nancy and Tom Morrisey, formerly of Ottawa. Michael's grandmothers, Marge Morrisey of Ottawa and Margaret Hill of Troy Grove, attended the ceremony.
