A 39-year-old Bradley man died Monday following a crash involving four semi trucks on Interstate 80 near Minooka.
Print this storyIllinois State Police responded to the crash, which took place in the eastbound lanes east of the Minooka exit. The crash caused severe damage to three of the semi trucks, which dumped their loads of grain and steel onto the roadway, causing I-80 to be closed through early Tuesday morning. At 2:42 p.m. Monday, traffic became congested east of Ridge Road due to construction work. A semi driven by William Henderson failed to reduce speed and struck the rear of a grain hauler that was stopped. The impact caused a chain reaction involving two additional semi trucks, including another grain hauler. Henderson was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger from another semi truck, Lawrence Atkinsson, 55, of Denver, was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital for nonlife threatening injuries. Drivers of the other vehicles — Daniel Frye, 37, of Argyle, Wis.; Jared Massey, 24, of Clifton; and Manuel Proctor, 48, of Cedar Hill, Texas — were uninjured. Troopers were assisted by Minooka Fire Department and the Grundy County Coroner's Office. The crash is still under investigation. |
