Relay for Life of La Salle Country raised a record $273,639 for the American Cancer Society this year.
Print this storyAccording to Karen Ranger, co-chair of the event, three teams raised $20,000 each. The benefit was successful despite being moved from Streator"s City Park to St. Anthony School because of stormy weather. "Everybody adapted very well," Ranger told The Times. "We were very fortunate that we made the decision to move. A lot of people made comments that they really enjoyed it." The regular schedule of events continued with a few modifications. Pure Reflections Day Spa of Peru had planned to do massages, but were unable to get to Streator because of downed trees on Route 18. Also, camping went on despite the crowded conditions. "We had campsites set up in every little corner we could find," Ranger said. |
