A traffic stop Friday in Peru led a Pennsylvania man to the county jail in Ottawa on a methamphetamine charge.

As of Monday afternoon, Jason C. Whitaker, 1396 Treasure Lake, Du Bois, Pa., needed $15,000 to make bond. Prosecutor Pete Siena said Whitaker was found with more than 100 grams of the illegal stimulant methamphetamine.

At a court hearing, the 35-year-old Whitaker said he would seek to hire a private attorney. If convicted, Whitaker faces a minimum prison sentence of nine years and a maximum of 40 years; probation is not an option. Whitaker's case is assigned to Circuit Judge H. Chris Ryan Jr.'s courtroom, with his next hearing set for Thursday, June 25.

Du Bois is in west central Pennsylvania.
