Illinois Valley Cellular has announced the names of winners for this year"s scholastic scholarship.

The eight scholars were selected from more than 200 candidates nominated by 35 high schools. Each recipient will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

To qualify the candidate had to reside in one of the following Illinois Valley Cellular servicing counties: La Salle, Bureau, Putnam, Stark, Marshall, Livingston, Ford or Iroquois. The scholars were each recognized at their respective high school awards ceremony.

Illinois Valley Cellular congratulates the followings students: Ellen Faletti, St. Bede Academy; Kara Johnson, Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School; Jill Hancock, Milford High School; Brett Burkart, La Salle-Peru High School; Paige Nelson, Dwight High School; Kylee Johnson, Midland High School; Megan Harvey, Putnam County High School; and Gregory Daum, Stark County High School.

Illinois Valley Cellular created this scholarship more than 13 years ago to show commitment to serving the communities within its eight-county home coverage area.

"When considering a candidate for a scholarship, several factors should be considered: the probability of academic success, dedication to school and community, motivation and high standards and an honorable character," said Melissa Eller, director of marketing and promotions. "All of the above exuded all of these qualities.
