Print this storyNeil Drummer will speak about the history of La Moille at the Bureau County Genealogical Society meeting May 28. The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the BCGS Library, 629 S. Main St. in Princeton. Drummer is a native of La Moille and has a long-standing interest in the history of the area and its inhabitants. He is quite knowledgeable about the schools, businesses, churches and more. La Moille was settled in the 1830s. Drummer is a descendant of some of the early settlers and can tell the group about La Moille"s connections to the Underground Railroad and to Owen Lovejoy, as well as businesses which produced coffins, windmills and Hubbard washboards. He has first-hand knowledge of the Allen School from working there. Last month"s speaker was Eva Blanco, with help from her husband, Dan. The topic of the meeting was "From the Cliffs of Northern Spain to the Gates of Ellis Island." The BCGS Library hours are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
