Temperatures plunged in northern Illinois, with readings of minus-8 at dawn at Illinois Valley Regional Airport in Peru and Putnam County student Billy Faletti had 11.2 degrees below on a meter at Northern Illinois University.
National Weather Service's Chicago office says temperatures will rebound quickly on Saturday to around or above freezing, but actually they were heading up quickly in La Salle-Peru. At 7:30 a.m., La Salle had minus-6 but had a forecast high around 14. Above-average temperatures are in the forecast for the latter part of the Presidents Day weekend, with highs in the upper 30s Sunday and Monday.
Temperatures rebound quickly on Sat & that continues through Mon.
The weather service says half an inch of snow is possible Saturday, mainly north of Interstate 80.
