TEENS: Don’t worry, Mom and Dad, you are doing a good job

I would like to preface this by saying I will do my best to make sure my mother and father never read this column. I cannot let word get out that I actually think they do a good job or I will never hear the end of it.

In addition, I would like to say I am not currently in trouble with my parents at all, so this has not been written to quell the anger of either of them. Also, yes, this does count as their Christmas present.

Parents… I would like to let you in on a little secret. I am officially going to be kicked out of the Angsty Teenager Club for this, but us kids know how much effort you put into raising us, and we really appreciate everything you do. I know we are just the worst to deal with. Good Lord, if I had to deal with myself at my age, I would go absolutely insane.

Anyway, as I was saying, to all the moms and dads out there panicking about what their teenagers are thinking, please, let this column ease your mind into a content state. Deep down, we all love you and know you are only doing what is best for us.

Teenagers… lose the attitude. You will not win; I speak from experience. I know it seems like parents are totally wrong, but I guarantee you they aren’t. The fighting is futile. We all know what they are doing for us is only in our best interest. It may be shrouded by some form of nagging or punishment, but whatever it is, they are doing it to further our well being. So for the love of of all that is holy, just please, shut your mouths.

I know it's hard; I am the worst at shutting up. I mean, they literally gave me a column in the paper so I could express even more words. But seriously, just don't argue. Whatever they say, just take it, and move on. Screaming back will only make it worse.

Your parents are not out to get you, I swear. Please just try and take what I say and use it to your advantage; your parents do not deserve all the garbage you give even though in your heart of hearts it may seem like it. Thank you.

Finally… Mom and Dad. Hey guys. I love you. Even though literally as I am writing this, Mom, you are nagging me about getting it done, I am still doing it, and I know you just want me not to be stressed about it. You guys have been so good to me and I have been pretty terrible to you at times. Nobody is perfect, but you guys are about as close as it gets. Things are really starting to work themselves out between us, and I cannot thank you enough for everything you have done. I want you to know that you are doing a fantastic job as parents and I love you 3,000.
