Man found dead in vehicle, after witnesses say he drove into the Illinois River in Ottawa
A man with ties to Ottawa was found dead Thursday night in a white Chevy Blazer, after the vehicle was pulled up from the Illinois River at Allen Park in Ottawa, confirmed Ottawa Detective Sgt. Kyle Booras.
Multiple agencies searched the river after witnesses told police someone drove a vehicle into the Illinois River at about 2:11 p.m. Thursday.
Emergency crews pulled the SUV from the Illinois River at Allen Park in Ottawa at about 5:50 p.m. A coroner's office official responded to the scene about 6:30 p.m.
The name of the deceased man is not being released by authorities until family members have been notified. An autopsy has been ordered, Booras said. Ottawa police are investigating the death.
The park was closed as emergency and rescue crews worked Thursday. They deployed boats using sonar technology to search for the vehicle, which Ottawa firefighters and other agencies had identified its location in the water.
